The American nuclear aircraft carrier "George Washington" arrived at the naval base of Busan, the second largest city of the Republic of Korea, on Wednesday, Yonhap news agency reported. The aircraft carrier is accompanied by a guided missile cruiser and two minesweepers equipped with the Aegis system.
The visit to the port of Busan is intended to replenish supplies and give the crew a chance to rest. "The Republic of Korea Navy plans to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the navies of the two countries, as well as enhance defense capabilities, in connection with the arrival of the fifth aircraft carrier group," the South Korean military said. This is the first port stop of a US aircraft carrier under South Korean President Lee Jae-myung.
He won the elections held at the beginning of June. The US Navy aircraft carrier last visited Busa in March.
