Police in Kazakhstan have arrested 15 people for kidnapping brides within a month and a half of implementing a new law that introduced a separate article in the Criminal Code punishing forced marriage. This was reported by the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan.
According to the department, "since the entry into force of the new amendments, internal affairs units have opened seven criminal cases on forced marriage in Karaganda, Mangistau, Zhambil and Turkestan regions and the city of Shymkent."
Moreover, the police published the video of the abduction of women on the street. The agency called on the eyewitnesses not to ignore such situations, but to report them immediately.
On September 16, the amendment to the Criminal Code entered into force in Kazakhstan, which provides criminal liability for forced marriage or cohabitation.
