The National Security Committee of the Israeli Knesset approved the bill establishing the death penalty for terrorists in the first reading, reports the press service of the parliament.
The Knesset approved the bill in a preliminary reading on March 1, 2023. The bill was introduced by Limor Son Har-Melech, a member of the far-right Jewish Power party, which is part of the government coalition.
As The Jerusalem Post writes, the document provides for the death penalty for those who "cause the death of a person who is a citizen of Israel, when the act is carried out with racist motives or hatred towards a certain group of the population."
As The Times of Israel reports, the Knesset can discuss the bill on the death penalty for terrorists in the first reading as early as November 5.
