During his working visit to Cairo, the capital of Egypt, the President of the Republic Vahagn Khachaturyan met with the elected Director General of UNESCO, Khaled Al-Anani.

At the beginning of the meeting, the president congratulated the elected director on assuming the high and responsible position and expressed hope that the cooperation between Armenia and UNESCO will continue to grow closer.

"We pay special attention to our cooperation with UNESCO due to the issues of preservation and protection of the Armenian cultural and historical heritage. I also assure you that Armenia is ready to support your initiatives aimed at strengthening and expanding UNESCO's activities," the president said.


Khaled Al-Anani thanked for the reception and noted that he has visited Armenia three times and has warm impressions of our country, and also expressed confidence that he will continue active cooperation.

During the meeting, the interlocutors emphasized the importance of preserving human history, historical-cultural and spiritual heritage and passing it on to the next generations. In this context, the parties agreed that culture and education have a key role in the development of societies, strengthening of mutual understanding and solidarity of peoples.

During the conversation, it was emphasized that through education and culture it is possible to create an atmosphere of tolerance and mutual respect, which in turn becomes the basis for the establishment of a culture of peace.

It was emphasized at the meeting that the initiatives implemented under the auspices of UNESCO are of great importance from the point of view of world peace and preservation of human values, and Armenia is ready to contribute to that process.

At the end of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue active dialogue and cooperation with the aim of deepening the cooperation between Armenia and UNESCO in the fields of education, science and culture.
