The resumption of nuclear tests in the USA can, supposedly, minimize the possibility of a nuclear conflict. Pentagon Secretary Pete Hegsett expressed this opinion at a press conference held after the ASEAN Defense Ministers meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
Commenting on US President Donald Trump's order to immediately start nuclear weapons tests, he emphasized that the agency will cooperate with the Ministry of Energy, which controls the country's nuclear military complex.
"The president made it clear that we must have a reliable nuclear deterrent. This is the basis of restraint. Understanding this and resuming nuclear tests is a very responsible approach. "I think the probability of a nuclear conflict decreases if you know what [arsenal] you have and are sure that it is working properly," the minister insisted.
According to the Minister of Defense, America's "powerful nuclear arsenal" will help the United States "ensure peace through force." "We are not seeking conflict with China or any other country."
"But the stronger we are, the stronger our alliances, the more we cooperate with allies in this region and around the world, the more, in my opinion, the probability of a nuclear conflict decreases," Hegsett added.
