US President Donald Trump called Hungary a safe place for a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin. Trump presented this position while answering journalists' questions at the beginning of the meeting with Vladimir Zelensky in the White House.
"We like Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Putin loves him, I like him. This is a safe country, they are doing a very good job," Trump said in response to a request for clarification on the choice of venue for the upcoming meeting with the Russian president.
"Orban is a very good leader in managing the country. His country does not have as many problems as other countries. That's why we decided to elect Viktor Orbán, and I think he will give us a very good welcome," the American president emphasized.
After a phone call with Putin on Thursday, October 16, Trump announced that they had agreed to meet soon in Budapest. Trump later indicated that the meeting could take place within two weeks.
