Sandu leads in the first round of presidential elections in Moldova

President of Moldova Maia Sandu, who is running for a second term, is leading in the first round of elections with 41.92%, the Central Election Commission of the republic reports after processing 98.29% of protocols from polling stations. Sandu has 41.92%, in second place is the suspended Prosecutor General of Moldova, a native of Gagauzia, candidate from the Party of Socialists Alexander Stoianoglo with 26.35%.

If none of the candidates can get more than 50% of the votes in the first round, then the second round of elections will take place on November 3.

In Moldova, presidential elections were held on October 20, the head of the republic was elected for four years. Also on this day, a referendum was held, in which citizens had to answer the question: “Do you support changing the Constitution in order for the Republic of Moldova to join the European Union?”
