Makron commented on Putin's proposal to start direct talks with Ukraine

The proposal of the Russian president on May 15 on starting direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul is "insufficient step". This was announced by French President Emanuel Mcron, according to Gazeta.ru, AFP reports.

"Negotiations should not precede the unconditional ceasefire," he said.

According to Macron, Putin "looks for a way out, but he still wants to win time." At the same time, the French leader called Russia's initiative to achieve peace.

Russia has offered Ukraine to hold direct talks without preconditions in Istanbul on May 15. Vladimir Putin stated that Moscow is ready for dialogue and is waiting for Kiev and its Western partners.
