The doctor explained in what cases arthrosis can develop at a young age

Arthrosis is a degenerative disease in which the joint is destroyed. It usually occurs in older people, but if four conditions are met, it can develop at a young age, Andrei Kardanov, doctor of medical sciences, orthopedic traumatologist at the European Medical Center (EMC), told Gazeta.Ru.

“Arthrosis is a disease of older people. However, if a young person leads a sedentary lifestyle, has obesity, impaired water intake, and is at risk of increased injury, then the disease may “get younger,” Kardanov said.

With arthrosis, pathological changes in the joint are caused not by inflammation, but by natural wear and tear. This can be caused by high loads on the joint during life, the aging process of the body, as well as disturbances in the axial load due to curvature of the spine, when excessive pressure is placed on the joint. Sometimes at the second or third stage of the disease with arthrosis, inflammatory processes occur that affect the entire cartilage.

“Arthrosis often develops primarily, not against the background of other diseases. The main role is played by hereditary factors or injuries to bones and joints. Another important factor in the destruction of the cartilaginous structures of the joints is a violation of posture and balance in the work of the muscles of the back and limbs. Arthrosis takes a long time to develop, pain symptoms increase gradually, often simultaneously with gradual deformation of the joint or limb. If the joint hurts, but there are no other signs, you should contact an orthopedic traumatologist and take an x-ray,” the doctor said.
