The Armenian PPA Association strongly condemns the torture, illegal arrests and unfair trials against the Armenian prisoners of war of Ruben Vardanyan, the Artsakh leadership and the 44-day war. This is stated in the statement of the Armenian PPA Association.
"These actions not only grossly violate human rights enshrined in international conventions, but also a continuation of Azerbaijan's anti-Armenian policy, aimed at creating an atmosphere of fear and supply to Armenians living outside its borders.
Dozens of Armenians from the 44-day war, state, military and public figures, as well as our compatriot prisoners of war, are kept in the prisons of Azerbaijan, to be inhumane, torture, psychological pressure, involving false accusations. The atrocities committed against them contradict the Geneva Convention on the European Convention on Human Rights and all international legal norms.
The Armenian authorities must immediately take all possible diplomatic, legal and political means to protect their citizens and ensure their release. The passivity of the state structures of Armenia or ineffective steps are unacceptable and cannot be justified.
At the same time, the international community and human rights organizations must stop indifference and take active steps to refrain from inhuman treatment of Armenian prisoners of war and torture at the same time force Azerbaijan to stop false trials. This issue must be raised in the UN, the Council of Europe, the OSCE and all possible international platforms, which have been raised by the highest international tribunal of human rights than years. Relevant sanctions should be applied for Azerbaijan to be responsible for its war crimes.
We demand the immediate release of Ruben Vardanyan, the Artsakh leadership and all Armenian prisoners of war. Human rights, justice, and international law should not become victims of political speculation and ethnic hatred, "the statement said.
