The average temperature in January in Armenia increased by 1.8 °C, and precipitation decreased by about 8%.


The average monthly air temperature in Armenia in January 2025 was -4.4 °C, which was 2.4 °C above normal. January was dry throughout the Republic, with only light precipitation observed on individual days. The average amount of precipitation in Armenia was only 6.3 mm, which is 18% of the norm.

It was the second dry January in the entire history of observations. Air temperatures were especially high in the second decade of January, when maximum temperatures in the Syunik and Tavush valleys reached 15–16 °C.

In the Ararat Valley and Yerevan, daytime temperatures rose only at the end of January, reaching 9–11 °C. The lowest temperatures were recorded in the mountainous regions of Armenia, at altitudes of 1800-2200 meters, where minimum temperatures from -15 °C to -20 °C were observed on individual days, and in frosty Ashotsk, up to -28.5 °C.

A stable snow cover of 10-20 cm has been maintained in these regions. According to observations conducted since 1935, the warmest January was observed in 1966, when the average monthly air temperature was -0.3 °C, and the coldest in 1964, with an average monthly temperature of -11.7 °C.

The wettest January was observed in 2010, when the amount of precipitation was 76.5 mm, and the driest in 1999, with only 2.3 mm of precipitation. Climate change assessments show that during the period 1935-2025. The average temperature in January in Armenia increased by 1.8 °C, and precipitation decreased by about 8%.
