It is important to avoid threats of force in the RA-Azerbaijan negotiations. EU spokesperson

It is important that Armenia and Azerbaijan negotiate in good faith on all outstanding issues, avoiding sharp rhetoric and threats of force.

in Brusselsof "Armenpress".In a conversation with the reporter, Anita Hipper, the chief spokeswoman for EU foreign relations and security issues, said this. The main spokesman of the EU reaffirmed the readiness of the EU to support the parties to achieve sustainable peace in the region.

Anita Hipper emphasized that the parties are encouraged to continue their dialogue and find mutually acceptable solutions that will satisfy their respective concerns.

The recent statements of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev not only pose a threat to the EU monitoring mission on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, but also challenge the fundamental principles and security of the European Union in general.

How is the EU going to respond to such provocations and what steps will be taken to ensure regional stability and protect the fundamental values of the EU? The EU constantly calls on the parties to refrain from such steps that could harm the peace process.

In particular, we place great importance on avoiding sharp rhetoric and encourage the parties to work towards mutually acceptable solutions in order to create a stable and peaceful future for all peoples of the region.

The EU continues its active engagement with both sides, including consultations on the settlement process, as well as the positive developments of the past year in the field of bilateral cooperation.

We encourage the parties to continue their dialogue and find mutually acceptable solutions that will address their respective concerns. This message was recently repeated by EU Special Representative Grono during his visits to Baku and Yerevan, where he met with the leadership of both countries.

The same message was reaffirmed by European Council President Costa in 2025. during a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on January 9. Azerbaijan's continued aggression against Armenia and the displacement of the indigenous population of Nagorno-Karabakh cause serious concerns in terms of human rights and territorial integrity.

What practical steps is the EU going to take to put pressure on Azerbaijan and respond to these violations? The EU has been supporting both sides in the settlement process in recent years, including solving problems related to the displaced population.

We again call on the parties to negotiate in good faith on all outstanding issues and will continue our dialogue with both sides on these issues. Aliyev's statements undermine the EU's credibility as a mediator in the South Caucasus and threaten Armenia's chosen democratic path.

How is the EU going to maintain its role as a fair and effective mediator, and will there be tangible consequences for Azerbaijan's actions and rhetoric?

The EU reiterates that it is important for the parties to negotiate in good faith on all outstanding issues, avoiding sharp rhetoric and threats of force. We welcome all efforts aimed at establishing a lasting peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In addition to other international efforts, the "Brussels Process" in 2021-2023 enabled the leaders of both sides to actively engage in discussions on key issues.

This provided a structural framework and necessary space to advance the settlement process, which was appreciated by both parties.

The EU greatly welcomes the positive progress made in further bilateral relations and hopes that 2025 will bring more positive results for the benefit of the entire population of the region. The EU is ready to provide additional support to both sides.
