The Communist Party, which strengthened its position with a dubious victory in the June 7 elections, is preparing to take revenge in the local self-government bodies and seize power in places.
The opposition has repeatedly announced its participation in the fall local self-government elections, especially the “Strong Armenia” party, which has won a lot of votes in the regions and could cause serious problems for the current government. But we learned that quite a few obstacles have arisen on the way. Pashinyan’s criminal prosecutions and illegal processes of seizing people’s property have scared people and created difficulties in finding candidates, especially finding candidates for community mayors has become very difficult.
People do not believe that it is possible to win, and if they win, not to end up in prison or not to lose their property and jobs, so they avoid running for office.
