As is known, the Armenian Ambassador to Russia, Gurgen Arsenyan, has been recalled. Now they are preparing to send the credentials of the new ambassador to Moscow. According to our information, Pashinyan has decided to send to Moscow the 67-year-old Samvel Mkrtchyan, who has worked in European countries all his life and was the official representative of Armenia to NATO from 2004-10, who is also the uncle of Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomyan. He was the Armenian Ambassador to Poland from 2018-2023, then he gave up his place to Alexander Arzumanyan.
Sending a diplomat who has worked in the West and especially in NATO for many years to the Russian Federation is a rather bold step, it is not clear how Russia, which, by the way, is also preparing to send a new ambassador to Armenia in January, will accept it.
If the parties do not come to an agreement and mutually confirm the credentials, the crisis in Armenian-Russian relations may deepen.
