The Constitutional Council of France has rejected the law initiated by President Emmanuel Macron, by which access to social networks was prohibited for children under 15 years of age.
The court ruled that the widespread ban violates the freedom of speech of teenagers, as well as privacy, because all users would have to undergo authentication to verify their age.
The law was supposed to take effect from September, blocking TikTok, Instagram and even WhatsApp. Now the government should urgently develop a new, legally invulnerable version of the law.
