About 30 dead sharks have been found on a beach in Sea Isle City, New Jersey, and the exact cause of their deaths remains unknown, according to the local ABC affiliate. According to marine biologist Stephen Nagiewitz, sharks typically swim in large groups of hundreds if not thousands of individuals and are common in New Jersey. He explained that the sharks could have died for several reasons, but most likely they were just accidentally caught in the sea, thrown and washed ashore.
According to the New Jersey Department of Fish and Wildlife, sharks often feed close to shore in the summer and sometimes stay in the shallows after low tide.
