At the "Daryali" customs point on the Georgian-Russian border, the automatic system of early warning about a possible natural disaster was activated, after which all personnel were evacuated from the territory of the checkpoint, reports "Novosti-Georgia".
As reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, patrol and border police officers, customs officers and employees of private companies were taken out of the checkpoint zone.
The Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia has announced the complete suspension of customs procedures. The import and export of goods, as well as the crossing of people across the state border, were temporarily stopped.
The authorities have also, as a preventive measure, completely closed the traffic of all types of vehicles in both directions near the village of Gweleti.
The warning system installed in the Devdoraki river gorge reacts to changes in the water level. The exact reasons for triggering the alarm are still being determined.
The authorities have announced that the checkpoint will fully resume operations after the risks are reduced and the threat of a natural disaster is eliminated.
Earlier, meteorologists warned that the weather in Georgia will deteriorate sharply on August 13-15.
