The United States and Iran are discussing a 45-day ceasefire, Axios reported on Sunday, citing its sources.
According to their information, "the United States, Iran and a group of regional mediators are discussing the terms of a possible 45-day ceasefire that could lead to an end to the conflict."
Sources of the portal admit that "there is little chance of reaching an agreement in the next 48 hours", but this may be "the only way to prevent a significant escalation, which would mean massive strikes on Iran's civilian infrastructure and retaliatory strikes on the energy facilities and water systems of the Persian Gulf countries".
According to sources in Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey, mediators are hoping to get confidence-building measures from the parties, hoping that Iran will take some steps to open the Strait of Hormuz and resolve Tehran's nuclear program.
"They are also working on what measures the Trump administration can take to guarantee Iran that the ceasefire will not be temporary and that the conflict will not resume," the portal writes.
