During a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Paris, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney discussed the defense of the eastern wing of the alliance in the Baltic and Arctic cooperation, according to a statement from the Canadian Prime Minister's Office.
In particular, the parties discussed the extension of the "Oversight" mission led by Canada, within the framework of which a multinational brigade was deployed in the Baltic.
"Prime Minister Carney also reaffirmed the importance of the Arctic to Alliance security, noting that Arctic Allies are strengthening their defense capabilities across the region," the statement said.
They also discussed providing security guarantees to Ukraine. Carney emphasized that Canada's total contribution to Kyiv's PURL (Ukraine's Priority Requirement List) arms program was 892 million Canadian dollars ($648.04 million).
