US President Donald Trump may annex Greenland because he believes other NATO member countries need Washington more than the US government needs them, according to Sky News reporter Deborah Haynes.
"It is becoming increasingly clear that Donald Trump is serious about seizing Greenland from NATO ally Denmark, despite warnings that such a move would tear the alliance apart. The US president knows that no European country will seriously try to stop him by force, because they will lose.
"He is probably betting that Washington will avoid occupying territories in the Arctic, because the rest of the NATO members need the US more than they need them," the reporter noted.
Haynes emphasized that European countries, including Great Britain, are largely dependent on the United States for defense. He said that the situation around Greenland should force NATO member states to develop their own military capabilities more actively.
