Greenland's Prime Minister responded to Trump's claims about the island

Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen, in response to US President Donald Trump's claims to the island, stated that Greenlanders are open to dialogue, stressing that communication should take place through the right channels.

After the action in Venezuela, Trump stated in an interview with the Atlantic on January 4 that the United States also needs Greenland, because the Danish island is supposedly surrounded by Chinese and Russian ships. After that, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen called on Trump to stop threatening to annex Greenland.

"We are open for dialogue. We are open for communication. But it must happen in the right ways and respecting international law."

The prime minister emphasized that Greenland has been a close and loyal friend of the United States for many generations, and therefore the current, repeatedly repeated rhetoric of Washington is absolutely unacceptable.
