A new round of negotiations between the delegations of Israel and Syria is planned for Monday in Paris under the auspices of US Special Representative for Middle East Affairs Tom Barak, reports the pan-Arab Asharq al-Awsat newspaper.
According to his information, the parties will resume the dialogue that was interrupted two months ago in order to reach an agreement on security measures, which will replace the previous agreement of 1974 on the withdrawal of Israeli and Syrian forces from the Golan Heights.
The new document will ensure the demilitarization of southern Syria in exchange for the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the areas south of Damascus that were occupied in December last year.
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani and Israel's Ambassador to the USA Yechiel Leiter will lead the delegations to the meetings in Paris.
Previously, Israel's chief negotiator was former strategic planning minister Ron Dermer, who resigned in early November after five rounds of meetings.
