Tonight in all churches, the Holy Liturgy of the Candlemas is celebrated. "Candlestick" means a lamp: a candle, to light (lit). On that evening, people take the lamps lit in the church home with them. It symbolizes divine light and blessing. The candlestick also symbolizes the light of the Bethlehem star that led the Magi to the Baby Jesus.
The Candlelight Liturgy is celebrated twice a year: on Christmas and Holy Resurrection.
According to the Armenian Church, the week before Christmas is a storage period. From December 30 to January 5 in the evening, people fast. During that time, exclusively plant-based food is used. The Christmas celebration begins on the evening of January 5th and continues past midnight.
