Head of EU diplomacy Kaya Callas issued a statement regarding the US airstrikes in Venezuela and the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.
"I spoke with the Secretary of State Marco Rubio and our ambassador in Caracas. The EU is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela. The EU has repeatedly stated that Mr. Maduro has no legitimacy and has supported a peaceful transition. The principles of international law and the UN Charter must be respected in all circumstances," the head of EU diplomacy said in the statement.
Kalas also said that the EU calls for restraint.
"The safety of EU citizens in the country is our priority," he added.
