Hamas agreed to release 34 Israeli hostages. Reuters:

The Palestinian group Hamas has approved a list of 34 hostages that will be released within the framework of a possible ceasefire agreement with Israel, Reuters reports.

The interlocutor of the agency noted that any deal on the return of the hostages would depend on reaching an agreement on the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, as well as on a permanent, not a temporary, ceasefire.

The Times of Israel clarifies that Israel provided Hamas with a list of 34 hostages a few months ago. The group demanded a one-week truce to find out who was alive on the list.

Israeli authorities are likely to refuse to end hostilities until a final agreement is reached. According to the magazine, 96 of the 251 hostages kidnapped by Hamas in the October 7, 2023 attack remain in the Gaza Strip.

According to the Israeli military, one third of them are dead.
