Trump's actions are a threat to democracy. Biden

President Joe Biden on Thursday marked the first anniversary of the January 6 uprising, strongly accusing former President Donald Trump of trying to destroy American democracy, saying that such an uprising should never happen again, writes CNN.

Biden has vowed to defend the nation's founding ideals against threats from the violent mob that stormed the Capitol a year ago and the prevailing lies that Trump and his allies continue to repeat about the 2020 election.

A jubilant Biden delivered one of the most impassioned speeches of his young presidency, recalling key moments in the country's past, calling the attack a living symbol of the turning point in American history that he so often talks about.

"For the first time in our history, the president did not lose the elections just like that.

He tried to intervene in a peaceful transfer of power when violent mobs reached the Capitol, but they failed.

And on this day of remembrance, we must do everything we can to ensure that such an attack never, ever happens again," Biden said.
